Earthquake Shelter

Find a place of safety during the quake. Discuss areas of your home with the family where they are able to avoid falling and flying objects. The Earthquake Country Alliance suggests drop, cover, and hold on. Dropping to your knees will prevent flying glass from hitting you straight on. Slowly work your way to the middle of the room and away from exterior walls and windows. With one arm, cover your head and neck in case heavy objects or debris are being tossed around. If there is a table or desk nearby, take refuge underneath. If not, fold into a fetal position to protect organs until the shaking subsides. If you are close to an exterior door, run outside to a clear area away from power lines and vehicles.
